LinkedIn is still the space for B2B and B2C companies to reach a larger audience, generate leads, drive website traffic, and establish online professional relationships. It’s also the platform for:

  1. Recruiting talent
  2. Providing mentorship services
  3. Marketing activities – whether you write a LinkedIn article or post a status update

You can even schedule a coffee meeting after sending a personal LinkedIn message.

But wait… there’s more….

Now LinkedIn has changed to become more interactive, similar to Facebook, as you can see from all the videos that are starting to populate your newsfeed.

Note: you can customize your newsfeed to control what you see.

Obviously, LinkedIn continues to remain much more professional & formal, whereas Facebook is more the casual, laid back sort of interaction.

You can even make outrageous statements to captivate your audience in Facebook, or bring up controversial topics, depending on what type of business you own. We all know Facebook is an extremely noisy environment.

Your tone and free expression is going to vary depending on whether you’re a solopreneur or Nike. Of course, you don’t want to offend your potential customer.

Given the changes in LinkedIn and a noisy Facebook platform, as a business owner or marketer, what’s your logical course of action?

Should you choose between LinkedIn and Facebook depending on who you serve – B2B or B2C?

Or should you play in both platforms? If so, how?

Use this 3 part formula:

  1. Attract your right audience in LinkedIn and start up a conversation via LinkedIn email
  2. Invite them to join your Facebook Group and share valuable & fun content within the group
  3. Take the conversation off both platforms in the form of a one-to-one call or a conversation through your business email account.

Of course this formula will not necessarily work for all businesses. If you work for an IT company selling multi-million dollar systems, obviously the approach is much more sophisticated.

If you’re a business owner, coach or consultant whose audience is open to connecting via Facebook, then this model works.
